The next time someone hands you a dire problem on Facebook, hand that sucker back. Say "what can you (or I) personally do to effectively combat or improve that dire situation?" Otherwise, you're letting your friend become just another town crier hollering out bad news or worries without a plan of action, without a solution proposed. When Facebook becomes an echo chamber of problems on top of problems, every day another thirty loud voices yelling about one or two problems (suddenly amplified to feel insurmountable), you lose the big picture. When your worldview loses its macro focus, your interest can wane and your optimism can wither on the vine. How are you supposed to change conditions and improve the outcome if you can't even see the true shape of the problem? And pointing out ways to effectively correct problems gives hope and action to otherwise bleak outcomes. A micro-fix implemented locally by thousands upon thousands can become a macro-resolution.

I've decided I want an upholstered headboard bed with storage under. Does anyone recommend a place to get that from where it won't be either expensive or made of cruddy materials?

I've just decided Halloween couldn't come at a more apropos time this year. I look forward to it even though there will be thousands of creepy clowns this year.

On this international day of peace, my mind returns to the fact that the constructs of society fall away during moments of trial. I worked alongside five religious groups and every conceivable race while working disaster response. We bonded, became thick as thieves, a second family, helping everyone regardless of creed, race, religion. We transformed the lives of total strangers. We prayed, conversed, lugged and hugged without any of the usual contraptions of societal barrier. My wish for the world is that it were normal and every day for this to occur. I wish that it could be so without the cataclysmic acts of God having to occur first.

I'm still psychically connected to my peeps from Houston, as in texting simultaneously. Hope all goes well finishing up there!

A big thank you to Shelley Jaffe for trying to go by and check on my house. Same to the girls for helping take care of it while I'm still in Texas. I'll be home soon! Just in time to fill out my OWN FEMA paperwork... oy. All I have to say about that is OY.

I have heard from Steve Starks that all the girls are safe, he's safe, and now the worst of the storm is passing.

The irony of being away doing disaster response for hurricane Harvey while hurricane Irma hits my house is not lost on me. What gods have I angered?

Your guys' thoughts on whether I need to go back home? Does Irma look like she will hit Tampa Bay hard right now?
