I wasn't buying the whole "don't send in your DNA, you're signing over your rights to it" thing, but I get about 50 paid ads a week right now on Facebook and similar, trying to convince me to try the DNA services. There absolutely cannot be enough profit in that service to warrant the kind of money they're spending to convince me, unless they found a way to profit off the back end of the service as well. Someone floating the services? Selling the aggregate data? Patenting all our DNA? I don't effing know, but I can tell you as someone who works in online marketing, they've dropped at least $500 into just trying to sell ME on it.
