Total Lunar Eclipse

Feb 20, 2008 at 10:42 PM

The eclipse is beautiful. An ephemeral shadow, the moon wavers and wiggles in the night sky. Slipping in and out of visibility, the moon is playing tricks on my eyes.

I stare at it and marvel at the coincidence that our earth's shadow and the moon could align so perfectly. Such a totally boggling scientific improbability, the two matching up so well.

And beautiful to behold, the moon appeared three dimensional, virtually popping out of the sky, then seemed to disappear altogether, the barest glimmer of a moon in the sky... There were small wiggly lines of light that were so spectral as to almost not really exist for a moment, then the moon literally glowed red for a moment.

Right now, I can't see the moon at all.

What would the sky be without the moon?

Look up right now to find out.

More about this ecipse.

PS, I got the picture from the CNN.com news story abut this eclipse. I'd send my own but my camera's busted.

Awesome! I didn't know about this, but looked up at the sky last night and gasped - so beautiful!! I've never seen one before.
