Cooking with my kiddos

Feb 23, 2007 at 12:40 PM

Sorry if I've been out of touch, I'm a BUSY gal.

Tomorrow my kids go for three months with their dad. So I've been spending my copious oodles of free time with my little girls instead of with you.

My daughters are now cooks. They can cook nearly anything I know how to cook. That doesn't make them chefs by a long stretch, but it does make me happy. I am not a home economics major, nor do I think that a woman's place is at the home. I just love family time.

As a very busy working single momma, I found what little time there is in a day when I'm not typing should be spent wisely.

Cooking meals together is one way to force some real quality time into the daily grind. We all have to eat, so we all cook together. It's way messier, but I've got a load of wonderful little memories with my kids, which is worth finding carrot bits on the floor and flour in the sink sometimes.

The Real Gates

Hi All - Just want to post this picture which raises questions about Bill Gates...

Is that a gang sign?

Yo Gatesy - WASSUP!

Attention Texans

Hey - If you live in Texas, you need to get active to keep the drug companies from bypassing your rights. They stepped right over you to the Governor, who ordered 12 year olds to get the drug in order to attend school.

So, you should call his opinion line: 800-252-9600 and tell him to keep his drug-company tainted hands off our kids.

Eat, Drink and Die Merry

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

  1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

  2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

  3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Yanks

  4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Yanks.

  5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

The above was received in an email from a Doctor friend of mine... Does that make it official medical advice? Nah! (He also send naughty jokes which I'm sure are anatomically impossible, least of all plausible medical advice.)

Poor Aussies... what's next?

What did I say back when they stopped carrying guns? I said it was a catastrophe. And statistics prove it now - taking away the right to lawfully carry a gun makes it so only the unlawful will have them.

Here's the article I received by email from my friend David. Unfortunately, the original author is obscured by too many forwards...

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

  • Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

  • Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent

  • Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

  • In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

  • While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

  • There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY.

Australian politician s are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the American evening news or hear our president, governors or other politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note my fellow Americans.....before it's too late! The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
If you value your freedom, Please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends.

More to chew on:

Gun History

Whether you agree or not, it's an interesting lesson in history. Something to think about...
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Each of the above numbers, when imagined in real human consequence, each as a single story of tragedy, is stunning alone. Now imagine the whole:
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
