Nine Year Old's Priorities

Jul 10, 2006 at 11:18 AM
We're leaving mid-day to drive to Portland with my Dad to pick up my little sister. The twins are very excited. Their Aunties are extremely esspecialle important to them. We're going to pick up Auntie Libby (my sister) and then visit Auntie Liz (GrandMaRie-s daughter, my step-sister who is preggers as can be right now).

So Aurora and Miranda thought ahead and packed some overnight bags, waking up at the crack o' dawn.

Me:

So, you should probably start packing an overnight bag for the trip.

A:
What's an over night bag??!
M:
(quoting me, thoughtful)
Over Night BAG.

(both twins snicker - something about it is really silly - a shared joke)

Me:

It's a small suitcase-ish bag you pack when your trip only needs one change of clothes. An overnight bag.

(When I say it the two words are mashed back into a single compound word. Boring. Sometimes explaining things properly means I have to cut the fun out of things. I like Over Night BAG better).

Aurora: (back on subject)
We already did. (grinning, eyes twinkling)

Miranda:
We're all packed up! (also grinning)

(Wow!)

Me:

So, you've already got a bag packed with a change of clothes and some toys and activities for the car?

Aurora:
Yup!!

Miranda:
All packed up.

Me:

You have a full change of clothes in there? (nodding kids) And some car-safe toys? And some puzzles in case you're bored? (nodding kids)... Let's start down the list to make sure.

(me starting to tick off on my fingers)

Underwear...

Aurora:

Ooooh! Forgot that one!

Miranda:
(already turning to open her bag.)

Tee hee.
